“Life may seem tougher than you think it is” – Janine Teñoso

“I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength.” Philippians 4:13

This verse has always been glued to my mind and heart ever since I was young.

I started singing when I was 5 years old. I joined interschool singing competitions and took part in my church’s worship ministry where I learned how to write songs. One afternoon, my mom saw an advertisement of a new singing competition on TV — TV5’s “Born To Be A Star”. She encouraged me to join. Fortunately, I passed the auditions and after a weekly elimination, got in the semi-finals. It was a memorable experience for me because it was the first time I had the opportunity to share what I loved doing through a public platform, one where the world could see me. I didn’t win the competition, but it opened another window of opportunity for me because a week later, someone called me and asked for a record deal.

“Fall” is a song that is personal to me because I wrote it myself, inspired by a friend who found herself in the middle of a dilemma. When I heard that I was going to be recording “Fall”, and that it was going to be released as my debut single, I was incredibly blown away by how things can turn out to be in just a blink of an eye.

Life may seem tougher than you think it is, but don’t ever give up. If you think you can write songs, keep writing. If you think you’re born to be on stage, keep performing. Embrace the gifts God has given you like your talents and the people around you — these things and people are sources of inspiration that also serve as instruments to help you contribute something amazing to this world.

Philippians 4:13 kept my feet on the ground. It stayed with me as I went through life’s up and downs. I hope it will help you too.
